Head of Laboratory: He leads the Tamale Zonal Public Health and Reference Laboratory, which is a critical diagnostic and surveillance hub under the Ghana Health Service. COVID-19 Response: During the pandemic, he was the Leader of the Tamale COVID-19 Testing Center, where he oversaw the operationalization of testing for seven regions in northern Ghana, significantly reducing the turnaround time for results. Deputy Head: He has also been recognized in official capacities as the Deputy Head of the Zonal Public Health Laboratory in Tamale. Research & Academic Interests Dr. Abdul-Karim is an active researcher whose work focuses on strengthening diagnostic networks in resource-limited settings. His key research interests include: Disease Surveillance: Specialized focus on extrapulmonary tuberculosis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Innovative Logistics: He co-authored research on using online marketplaces for specimen transport, piloting mobile and web-based applications to improve lab networks in Northern Ghana. Vaccination: His collaborative research includes studies on the socioeconomic factors affecting childhood vaccination in Ghana.
