Sunil Saroj

Prof. Sunil D. Saroj is a Professor of Microbiology at the Symbiosis School of Biological Sciences, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, India. His research focuses on host–pathogen interactions, antimicrobial resistance, bacterial signaling, and metabolic adaptation in clinically relevant pathogens. His laboratory investigates how host-derived metabolites and environmental stresses regulate bacterial virulence, tissue tropism, and survival, with particular emphasis on Neisseria meningitidis, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Prof. Saroj has held research and postdoctoral positions at internationally reputed institutions including Chiba University, Japan; Emory University, USA; and Stockholm University, Sweden. His work spans microbial pathogenesis, bacterial communication, metabolomics, and translational microbiology, integrating genomics, molecular biology, and infection models to understand adaptive antimicrobial resistance and host adaptation. He has also contributed significantly to research on bacteriophages, CRISPR-associated virulence, and interspecies signaling in pathogenic bacteria.
